Beijing Temps Exceeded 41 C Yesterday, A Record June High
Beijing recorded a high temperature of 41.1 C yesterday (Jun 23) as the capital city continues to experience an ongoing heatwave, according to a report from Beijing News (新京报).
This isn't the first time the city has seen the heat cranked up to over 41 C, but it is the first time in June. The most recent recording was May 2014, when temperatures also hit 41.1 C, and Jul 1999, when weather experts recorded an extreme temperature of 41.9 C. According to a BBC report on the record temperature, this was the hottest June day since recording began in 1961, over 60 years ago.
Temperatures could reach 41 C again today, or possibly get even hotter
Meteorological experts predict temperatures will continue to reach 39-40 C, adding that if the hot days continue until Jun 25, the record for hot days in June in the city, which was set at 11 in June 1952 and 2000, will be broken by a record of 12 hot days in total.
Seeing as it's so hot out, it's as good a time as any to get on over to a pool or waterpark. See our recommendations for the best in the city below.
